Microneedling is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States. It is a minimally invasive option that can target the main cause of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging: low collagen and elastin in the skin.
At InjectAbility Clinic, we offer all of the benefits of microneedling along with those of platelet-rich plasma therapy. Learn more about PRP microneedling and what it can offer.
Microneedling is a procedure that utilizes tiny needles to create small wounds on your skin. These wounds trigger your body’s healing process, jump-starting collagen and elastin production.
Collagen and elastin are two important proteins made by your body. They serve many purposes, and one of these is to keep your skin hydrated and firm. As you enter your late 20s, however, production of these proteins decreases, leaving your skin more prone to developing wrinkles and fine lines.
Microneedling can help with many skin concerns, including:
This procedure can also help address skin elasticity issues. It is appropriate for a wider range of people than some comparable procedures, like laser skin therapy.
There are many microneedling devices on the market, ranging from rollers to smaller at-home devices, but at InjectAbility Clinic, we only use SkinPen® – the only microneedling device that has been approved by the FDA. A number of risks have been uncovered involving the use of non-FDA-approved devices
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance that can promote healing. Platelets and plasma are two components of your blood. PRP concentrates these components into a substance rich in factors that help with blood clotting and cell growth.
To create PRP, we take a small amount of your blood and run it through a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood components and allows us to create plasma that has more platelets in it than normal. We can then inject the PRP into the treatment areas.
PRP microneedling combines the collagen-boosting powers of a traditional microneedling procedure with the growth factors that PRP offers. These growth factors encourage the skin to repair itself more rapidly.
It is an excellent treatment option for:
The best candidates for microneedling with platelet-rich plasma are those who are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and do not want to undergo a more invasive procedure. It is appropriate for most skin tones.
Because microneedling with PRP is a minimally invasive procedure, you do not have to worry about long recovery periods.
Microneedling with PRP is also a good option for people with darker skin tones. Some laser therapies may not be appropriate for darker skin, but turning to microneedling can offer similar collagen-boosting results.
This combination procedure also delivers results in which the effects may seem to last longer than traditional microneedling. Many people enjoy the boost in collagen and elastin for months before needing another microneedling session.
The first step is to have a consultation with us. We will examine the areas you want to treat and get your full medical history to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. You must also give us a list of any medications you take.
To prepare for microneedling with PRP, we ask that you hydrate yourself for two days well by drinking additional water.
Do not schedule chemical peels before microneedling. Avoid prolonged sun exposure for a few days since it can make your skin more sensitive.
Come to your appointment without wearing makeup, lotions, or other creams on your face. You may want to have a snack and make sure you are hydrated, because we will be drawing a small amount of blood.
We will cleanse your face and apply a topical numbing cream, which will have to set for about 20 minutes.
As you wait, we will draw your blood so that we can create the platelet-rich plasma.
We will perform the microneedling procedure and apply the PRP to the treatment area simultaneously, so that your skin can absorb it.
Once we finish the procedure, you are free to return to most of your daily activities.
There is no downtime with microneedling with PRP, but do avoid sun exposure because your skin will be sensitive. You also want to stick to milder skin care products while your skin heals. Avoid exfoliants and alcohol-based products since they can cause irritation.
Until your skin heals, avoid strenuous exercise or other activities that can make you sweat excessively.
Most people start seeing results within a week or two. You may need multiple sessions, depending on the condition you want to treat.
You can continue to see improvements as your body creates more collagen; the results may last up to 12 months.
If you have noticed signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, or if you have a frustrating skin condition like hyperpigmentation or acne scars, microneedling with PRP can offer dependable results.
